An Outdoor Retreat: Part 1

View the story log

These two sims are about to experience–and hopefully enjoy–their very first Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat!  You don’t need to know their names, as this is a gameplay review; although don’t be surprised if you see these sims in a real story soon. 😉

So anyhow, the first thing your sims ought to do before heading out to Granite Falls is get some suitable clothes for the wilderness.  These two weren’t sure what the weather would be like, so they each picked out clothes that looked warm, yet suited their personal style.  The selection of new clothing was very impressive, to say the least!  In my last post, I showed the outfits these two sims picked out, except for the incredibly sexy and warm high-heeled boots for the ladies.  (Those boots are part of her everyday styles now, no matter that she lives in Oasis Springs!)

Do not attempt to just travel to Granite Falls like you would travel to Willow Creek or Oasis Springs–you must first schedule your trip via the telephone or computer.  You can pick how long you’d like to stay and choose the vacation spot your sims want to rent while they’re in Granite Falls.

My sims decided to “rough it,” because they’re a little… adventurous!  They left right after the man returned home from work, so he was rather tired, but they had a spontaneous idea to go camping for three days!  They arrived at the campsite they reserved for their retreat, and it didn’t take long for them to realize they were in a bit of trouble… there are no tents at the campsite!

They really should’ve consulted a travel guide, don’t you think?  The man expressed his desperate need for a bathroom and the lady found a spot to build a fire at least.

It was getting dark, and just as the man spotted the bathrooms, he also encountered a friendly and helpful park ranger.  She asked a few questions that were none of her business, and the man went on his way; to take care of more important matters.

Meanwhile, the woman was playing with the fire she’d built.  It’s entirely possible that she has an undiscovered proclivity toward pyromaniac tendencies, but let’s not tell the park ranger!

Thankfully, the woman could hear the park ranger approaching, and knew to stop playing around.  She didn’t want to get them in trouble and ruin their special getaway!  Quickly the woman rose up to talk to ranger.

The park ranger claims to have a lot of information about the park and offered to be of some type of assistance.  However, the woman wasn’t able to get a single bit of useful information from the ranger.  The park ranger was more interested in asking stupid questions like, “Where is your tent?”  When the woman explained that they didn’t bring one, the ranger simply said, “Interesting choice…  Well, just don’t feed the bears or leave your campfire unattended.”

It was about that time when the man discovered this retreat is full of bugs… or, at least the bathroom is!  LOL

The worst part is they actually charge for showers in that bug infested “restroom.”  I wouldn’t recommend “roughing it” for your favourite snobbish sims–not unless you’re trying to teach them a lesson!

This man wasn’t bothered by the bugs that much, really, because he’s quite a tough guy.  He was completely exhausted, mind you.  He’d been slaving away at work all day while his pretty girlfriend just painted a picture.  He decided to sit down and figure out what to do about the situation they were in…

All that problem-solving was really exhausting work too.

When the woman realized her sweetheart had not returned, she went looking for him.  She did not care what the idiot ranger told her, she left the fire burning strong–just in case he made his way back to camp while she was looking for him!

The weather wasn’t bad in Granite Falls, but it did feel a bit more chilly than Oasis Springs after dark.  The new warm clothes were definitely a good choice, since it was beginning to look like they’d be sleeping without shelter that night.

As she strolled through the national park, the woman was amazed by all the beautiful sights.  It didn’t matter that it was dark, everything looked gorgeous to her.  She knew she’d return home with a lot of inspiration for her art after this retreat!

She was astonished to discover some people gathered around a fire–apparently enjoying a semi-formal party in the woods.  There were four ladies and one man, and it seemed a bit too weird.  When one of the revellers invited her to join them, the woman was very quick to reject them and carry on!

Thankfully it wasn’t long until she stumbled upon a small information booth.  There is information available at the booth, but the woman was most interested in the fact that there are supplies for sale there!  She was able to purchase a few things to make their retreat a lot more pleasant.

“Now to find my love,” she said to herself.  She decided to re-trace her steps back to their campsite first, though, because the park was clearly a lot larger than she’d expected.

When she reached their campsite, she set up the tent and the cooler that she purchased from the info booth, and felt extremely proud of herself.

Even better, she noticed her love was coming down the path toward the campsite too!  “Hey babe,” she greeted him.  “Look what I found!” she bragged and gestured toward the tent and cooler.

“That’s great.  I got us some potatoes,” he responded.  She began grilling baked potatoes for them, and he got the fire going stronger again.

“Thanks for cooking,” the man said as he grabbed his serving.  As they ate, he complimented her on finding and setting up the supplies.  “I’m sorry for dragging you out here without proper supplies,” he apologized.  “I was so desperate to get away, work has been stressing me out, and I wanted to do something special for you.”

She smiled and said, “It’s okay.  This way, I can do something nice for you, for a change.”  They got up, and she hugged him tightly, delighting in the warmth of his body.  Suddenly their romantic moment was interrupted by more bugs.

Brushing them away, the man promised, “I swear, I’m going to figure out how to make some bug repellant tomorrow.”

“Good idea!  Now, let’s get to bed…”  She turned and walked toward the tent.

“Wait a second, it’s not safe to leave the campfire burning,” the man explained.

“Okay babe, you can fire safety or woohoo.  It’s totally up to you!” she said playfully.

He yawned while looking around the campsite.  The fire was burning and food that could attract a bear was left out, but there was woohoo to be had in the tent!  “Park safety is the ranger’s job!” the man declared.

Two hours later, the fire was still burning, and so was their passion! Perhaps it has something to do with getting back to nature, but the Watcher was a little surprised by their endurance.  So let’s just say, an outdoor retreat seems to be very good for a sim’s relationship!

Cute! Thanks for giving a small look at what it’s like.

  2. Bahaha, what a cute, entertaining, and informative review! I think I’ll probably end up picking this one up, but since I only recently got the game I still have a lot I haven’t explored yet, haha. Still, the new content and gameplay looks great ^_^

    • I’m glad you liked it! I decided to go ahead and do it half story style, since the times I’ve done “Gameplay Reviews” that go on for several parts, people always called them stories. So this time I made it half and half! 😀

I’m sure you’d like “Outdoor Retreat” a lot. Honestly, what really impresses me is how much stuff you get for under €20. Way better than a new world for Sims 3 or something like that! Plus the fun gameplay and awesome new clothes (quite a good selection).

I love the way you put a story together. Waiting for the next part now

    • Oh, thank you so much! I really wanted to share what it’s like for me to discover things in the new DLC without reading any spoilers or tips or anything. I had quite the adventure today, that I am looking forward to sharing tomorrow 😉

This is a great format. I’m going to have to come back and read the rest once I’ve played a bit. 🙂

    • Oh thank you! I’m so happy with the new DLC, and it’s really a fantastic new addition to storytelling possibilities! It’s a lot of fun, and the camping area is so large–a lot like playing an open world, but with townies all over! Really fun 🙂
